10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls
Eight local agencies have teamed up to bring a walk around the square to raise awareness of falls in the community. These groups will offer information, support, and some screenings to help seniors educate themselves on falls and how to protect themselves. Some important tips to remember to keep yourself safe are:
- Talk with your doctor to evaluate your risk of falls and to review your medications.
- Do strength and balance activities to make your legs and balance stronger.
- Have your eyes checked at least once a year and update glasses as needed.
- Make your home safer, install handrails in your bathroom and on both sides of the stairs, make sure there is good lighting in all rooms, and remove things that can be easily tripped over.
